What’s the Deal with Aloe Vera and Sunburns?

What’s the Deal with Aloe Vera and Sunburns? - Aurganics

This summer’s been a hot one, glow-getters, and it seems to be going on FOREVER. Hopefully, you’ve been soaking up some vitamin D and applying your sunscreens. But just in case you haven’t and ended up with a little sunburn (or a big one) we can help! Sunburns can take as little as 15 minutes to happen, so it’s important to treat your skin after a sunburn ASAP. They can cause a lot of pain, and in severe cases can even cause nausea, dizziness, dehydration, and fainting.

We’re talking aloe vera today (and all the benefits that come with it!). Aloe vera is one of the top ingredients used here at Aurganics. We love it so much, we made it the first ingredient in our Alpha Glow Serum, because our skin is worth more than gold (Au).

Aloe Vera 101

Aloe Vera is just one of those miracle plants. It’s been used for centuries and can be traced back to 2100 BC Egypt. Even the great Cleopatra was believed to have used it as part of her beauty routine. Aloe vera can be found everywhere, in Greek and Roman mythology it was said that the “Greek gods used aloe vera to treat wounds and alleviate pain", while the Romans nicknamed it the “plant of immortality”. Alexander the Great was even convinced by Aristotle to conquer an island for the plant. It seems like everywhere we look, aloe vera has been used to treat the skin, so why would we stop? We haven't! Check out our full ingredient glossary HERE.

Where the story begins…

So let’s say, you were in the pool with your friends and “forgot” to reapply your sunscreen. But let’s be honest, no one really wants to reapply sunscreen. ESPECIALLY when you're already in the pool, like why I’m having so much fun I don’t want to get out. Flash forward a few hours and you're a little tender. Lols. Your skin feels itchy and irradiated and OMG you deeply regret not getting out of that pool and reapplying sunscreen. But it’s fine. Cause you know what to do.

What’s next?

Apply moisturizer! Lather it everywhere. It’ll soothe your itchy skin and prevent you from damaging your skin. Aloe vera is the best option because it’s loaded with hydrating properties. It can come from the plant or in gel form. From there, applying a cold press over the burn will help with the inflammation. Combined with the anti-inflammatory properties of the aloe vera and you’ve got an anti-inflammatory cocktail. Repeat applying throughout the day. Adding aloe vera to your routine can accelerate the healing process as well. The Alpha Glow Serum is formulated with pure aloe vera juice! To help brighten your skin and give you that glowy look.

After too much time in the sun, it’s very important to remain hydrated. Your skin suffers from dehydration during a sunburn. It can appear dry, rough, and can cause breakouts. Drinking aloe vera can help rehydrate you from the inside out. Along with rehydrating, it can treat digestive issues and aloe vera’s antioxidants can help treat some health risks associated with stress, like heart disease.

Where can I find some?

Aloe vera can be found in soooooo many products because it’s filled with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Hair oils, moisturizers, toners, and drinks all carry the ingredient! At Aurganics, we use aloe vera as the base for our Alpha Glow Serum, so that you can achieve an irritation-free glow. Check out our full ingredient glossary for more information about all of Alpha Glow’s ingredients.
